It's not often the second string gets so much attention.

Millions are expected to tune in for the showdown in St. Louis between vice presidential candidates Joe Biden and Sarah Palin.

Both candidates have been criticized recently; Palin for interviews on the CBS Evening News...

"I'm gonna find you some examples and bring em to ya."

Biden for inaccuracies in some of his recent statements.

However, each has received praise for past debates; Palin during her run for Governor of Alaska...

"This unfunded liability that we face is going to affect every education budget until we get our hands around it."

And Biden during the Democratic primaries...He delivered one of the most memorable lines of the season. About Rudy Giuliani:

"There's...there's only three things he mentions in a sentence: a noun and a verb and 9/11. I mean, there's nothing else."

Laughter aside, both campaigns are taking this one and only vice presidential debate very seriously, aware any mistake could make a difference in such a close election.

Even the moderator, Gwen Ifill, is getting her share of unwanted attention. Some Republicans say she should recuse herself. because of her upcoming book on black political leadership. that includes Barack Obama.

Ifill says she stands by her record.
