One-of-a-kind debate and the response from our panel of voters
11:54 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2008
In an election season marked by high drama, the vice presidential debate did not disappoint.
Candidates Joe Biden and Sarah Palin paired up for their one and only face-to-face match-up.
Right out of the gate, Biden went on the attack and the two sparred over the condition of the country's economy.
"Until two weeks ago...it was two Mondays ago, it was 9 a.m. John McCain said the fundamentals of the economy are strong. Two weeks before, he said we'd made great economy progress under George Bush's policies. 9:00, the economy was strong, 11:00 that same day, John McCain said that we have an economic crisis. That doesn't make John McCain a bad guy, but it does show he's out of touch. Those folks on the sidelines knew that two months ago," VP nominee Biden said.
"John McCain, referring to the fundamental of our economy being strong, he was talking to and he was talking about the American workforce. The American workforce is the greatest in this world. The ingenuity and work ethic that is just entrenched in our workforce, that's a positive, that's encouragement and that's what John McCain meant," VP nominee Palin said.
Just two debates remain, both featuring the presidential candidates.
And Americans will head to the polls to vote in about a month.
But tonight, we had some of those voters here at our station, watching the debate.
Our Voice of the Voter panel watch the two candidates battle.
Members of our roundtable say none of their minds were changed by tonight's debate, but a few did admit to having their opinions of both candidates change, slightly.
