Home invasion victim speaks out after attack

“I had them on and he hit me over here and they went flying,” said victim Norman Hammond .
A pair of broken glasses, a black eye and some stitches is what Norman Hammond walked away with after a home invasion at his apartment early Thursday morning.
“I'm a little shaken up still,” he said.
Hammond had no idea a guest had invited two people over without his permission.
When one of them went outside, the other locked Hammond's door, pulled out a gun and ordered him on the floor.
Then the suspect started to rob him.
“At the time, I was squirming around saying, 'I have to go to the bathroom' or 'I need to take my medication' and stuff,” he said.
But somehow, Hammond says he crawled into the kitchen and got a knife.
“He was upset I was standing up and he came at me, and I kind of thrust the knife at him and then he hit me and knocked me down,” he said. “I don't think he realized he was hurt because he kept coming at me and I think, after about two or three thrusts, I think he realized he was injured and he just kind of dropped everything and ran out the door.”
And after everything that happened at his apartment complex, Hammond says he still feels safe living here. We even asked Hammond if he was worried about getting shot.
“Well the thought occurred to me, but I wasn't too concerned because at least I know I’m going to heaven,” he said.
He even feels bad for stabbing the suspect. But if he had to do it all over again, he would.
“You're just thinking about self preservation and that's the motivation, that's the main thing right there,” he said.
Hammond’s apartment complex is surrounded by a gate with a lock. But when we went there Thursday, the gate was unlocked and we walked right in. We called apartment managers, who then fixed the door.

Another Home Invasion? Thats why we have a dog. Most criminials will not invade a home with a dog and outside lights on. A dog that does not like strangers is the best type of guard dog and have it a medium size dog that will bark his head off. Big dogs do not bark much to warn you of an intrusion.
