"When you can find gas this cheap, you gotta get it," customer Bill Levitt said.

Cars have been lining up at the Star gas station all day, trying to save some money on a tank of gas.

"I'm amazed that it's this low," customer Michelle Voth said. "I was driving down the road and knew I needed some but I absolutely had to get it right now."

In four months, the average gas price nationwide has dropped 78 cents.

And people are noticing the difference in Topeka.

The Star gas station on the corner of 6th and Summit is about 20 cents cheaper than most Topeka gas stations.

Friday, the price for unleaded was $2.49 and today it has already dropped 3 cents.

"Gas is just low, man," customer Jarius Lyles said. "It's good for everybody, you know."

Kansas gas prices

"Well I think it's great," customer Robert Anderson said. "I hope it goes down lower, but I appreciate the price here."

The cost of gas is lower because of the state of the economy.

There is less demand for oil and gas, which decreases the cost of a barrel of crude oil. One barrel is now $50 cheaper than it was three months ago.

And people say they'd like to keep it that way.

"I don't know why they were ever so high in the first place, to tell you the truth," Voth said.

"Hopefully it stays, but I doubt it," Levitt said.

"Be nice to get it down below $2, but I appreciate this price," Anderson said.

And customers say every little bit counts.

"It's just nice that we can save the money," Anderson said. "It helps."
