KU fans are still feeling the loss last week to South Florida, but the Jayhawks have to forget about that game and turn their attention to Sam Houston State. After that last second 37-34 lost to the Bulls, the Hawks fell in the polls from 13th to 19th. KU is coming off just its second lost in the last 16 games. On Saturday, the Jayhawks will have to deal with the Bearkats and the Crimson and Blue know that can't ever overlook a 1-AA foe.
"We're not going to sit here and say we're playing the best team out there. Obviously, it's a lesser opponent," junior quarterback Todd Reesing said. "I don't know anything about the team, obviously, so I can't say they're a bad team. But I'm sure with having Brent Bohmar and other guys that were at Division 1 schools, they are going to have a team that is going to come here and try and beat us."
"What we've elected to do is, yes we're preparing for Sam Houston State, but we're using this week for us to get better and focus on just getting our team better," head coach Mark Mangino said.
It's Band Day out at Memorial Stadium, the Hawks and the Bearkats kick things off at 6:00.
To K-State now...On Wednesday, the Cats dropped their first game of the year in nationally televised fashion. K-State fell to Louisville 38-29. One positive the Cats can take is that quarterback Josh Freeman threw over 300 yards for the first time this year, and he also reeled in three touchdowns. But it was all for nothing because KSU gave up over 300 yards on the ground. You will have to wait eight days to see the Wildcats back on the field. They play next Saturday, the 27th, when they take Louisiana-Lafayette.
To the Division 2 level now, last week really wasn't good for Northeastern Kansas college football. Washburn fell in its conference opener to Fort Hays State, 17-7. The Ichabods were riding a wave of goodness going into that game after knocking off 1-AA Missouri State. So now the Bods have to rebound against Central Missouri and avoid dropping two early games in conference play.
"We knew going into the season we had a three-game stretch on the road with Central Missiouri being the final one and it's probably the toughest test of all three, but it should be a very good match up. We match up very well offensively, defensively and special teams," head coach Craig Schurig said.
"They do pretty much what we do on defense. Playing our defense everyday in practice is going to help us out a lot. Hopefully, we will do pretty well against them," sophomore quarterback Jake Iverson said.
The Mules and the Bods get it going from Warrensburg, Missouri at 1:30.
To the Woo's neighbors to the south, Emporia State is also coming off of a conference loss to the University of Nebraska, Omaha. Next up for the Hornets, a date at home with Fort Hays State. Kick off for that one is set for 1:00.

Tough loss to the University of Suspected Felons (USF). That goof ball of a coach they have takes all of the players that no other coach will take.
