Annette Lawless

KTKA Manhattan Bureau Reporter, January 2008 - July 2008

Annette Lawless joined the 49 News team in December 2007 as its Manhattan Bureau reporter.

Originally from Wellington, Kan., Annette considers herself a small-town gal with big-city dreams. She jumpstarted her interest in journalism when she become involved with debate and forensics in high school, being named one of the top 100 public-speaking students in the country.

Annette graduated from Kansas State University’s A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications with a bachelor’s degree in 2008. She studied broadcasting, print journalism and public relations, minored in leadership studies and political science and held an emphasis in psychology and geology. She loved learning from the purple-clad people in the Little Apple.

During college, Annette worked as a production assistant for ESPN and was an intern for KAKE-TV, an ABC affiliate in Wichita. She was heavily involved with on-campus radio and TV programs. She won awards from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters for her work in both.

Though she has a strong love for broadcast news, Annette also was a section editor, columnist and editor-in-chief of the university’s student-run newspaper, the Kansas State Collegian. At the Collegian, she won the distinguished Columbia Scholastic Press Association awards for her creativity in page design. Some of her favorite reporting experiences include interviews with media mogul Ted Turner, activist Ralph Nader and actress Tina Fey.

Annette enjoys spending her spare time with her family and friends. She considers herself to be a daredevil, having rappelled off 500-foot cliffs and climbed the Sydney Harbor Bridge. She loves photography. You can often catch her watching K-State sports, “House, M.D” or the occasional “Sex and the City” and “The Wonder Years” episode. Annette loves to travel and hopes to visit Europe and her mother’s native country, Vietnam.
