Ben Bauman

Anchor

NEW! Check out Ben's video bio.

For more than 20 years, Ben Bauman kept northeast Kansans up-to-date with his early morning radio newscasts. He’s thrilled to now be a part of the 49 News team and to still be communicating with area residents as co-anchor of the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts.

Ben got his start in broadcasting while a student at Washburn University in Topeka, with a part-time gig at the PBS station, KTWU. He soon added another part-time job as weekend anchor/reporter at WIBW Radio and TV. After receiving his degree in Communications from Washburn, Ben joined WIBW Radio full-time. He soon moved up to the position of News Director, a job he held for 10 years.

During a two-year hiatus, Ben served as Director of Communication for Kansas Governor Bill Graves. Following the end of Graves’ second term, Ben was back in broadcasting, resuming morning anchor duties at 580-WIBW in 2003.

Ben has been honored by his peers for broadcast excellence numerous times, but says he is most rewarded by knowing a story has helped, inspired or entertained someone. Ben is a graduate of the Leadership Kansas program, and has served on various community and non-profit groups, including his church and local school board.

A native of northeast Kansas, Ben grew up on a farm near Bern, where he enjoys returning as often as possible. Ben and his wife, Marj, have three grown children and four grandchildren. They enjoy spending time with family, travel, gardening and sports.
