Jamie Oberg
KTKA Web editor, November 2005 - December 2007
Born and raised in Kansas, Jamie Oberg grew up in the small northeast community of Basehor, in Leavenworth County. She graduated from the A. Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Kansas State University in May of 2005, with a degree in electronic journalism and an outside concentration in history. She called Manhattan home for four years in college and looks forward to covering the events in a community she has come to know and love.
During her time at K-State, Jamie reported and anchored for the student-run news program “Manhattan Matters.” She also has intern experience at KSHB-41 News in Kansas City as well as WIBW-13 News and KSNT-27 News in Topeka. She also worked as a freelance journalist at KPTS-8 in Wichita, Kansas, where she reported live for “Kansas Week” and “Kansas Health Watch.”
Jamie has enjoyed covering the return of the “Big Red One” and all of the military news happenings in Fort Riley. Jamie has always had a love for history, specifically military history. Her grandfather and father both served in overseas conflicts. She put a lot of work into a short World War II documentary on the life of another Basehor native, Harry T. Kelley. He is one of two Kansas survivors of the U.S.S. Houston, Jamie captured his amazing story on film, as he retold his life as a prisoner of war, and his trials building the infamous “death railway,” for the Japanese. Since Jamie comes from a small town, she knows the importance of community journalism and she looks forward to being active Kansas communities.
Jamie knows there is nothing quite like the Wildcat football experience, and she looks forward to supporting Coach Ron Prince.
When she’s not cheering on her Wildcats, Jamie enjoys playing bingo at the V.F.W. and American Legion Posts in Manhattan. She also enjoys serving up hot biscuits and gravy at the monthly V.F.W. breakfasts in Basehor.
