That's the City of Topeka for you...all of the big problems persist while little non-problems get the spotlight. Code Compliance needs to take a stroll through my neighborhood and get REAL code violations rather then worrying about garage sell signs that will HELP some people get some extra cash.

I think the current sirens Shawnee County has are in perfect working order. Like Sterbenz has said, many of the older sirens worked during this past Monday's failure. I know the siren closest to me has been up since at lest the 50s when the school was built, and it had worked faithfully all these years, with the exception of this past summer, but i notified County EM and it was fixed within a week.

People need to get this sentence through their heads. "Outdoor Warning Sirens are designed to be heard outdoors." Many people do spend time outside away from TV and precious Alert Radios, including me. That is why i favor in keeping area sirens, and continuing maintenance and adding new ones.
